Bib: Your Race Day Identity
What is a Race Bib?
A Bib (or race number, 号码布) is the numbered piece of material worn on your front during races. It's your official identity on the course.

Bib Etiquette
DO ✅
- Wear it on your front (cameras are at finish line)
- Use 4 safety pins (one per corner)
- Fill out emergency info on the back
- Keep it flat and visible
DON'T ❌
- Fold or crumple it
- Wear it on your back
- Share/transfer it to others
- Modify the timing chip area
- Throw it away before results post
Bib Number Psychology
Different races assign numbers differently:
- Elite runners: Often #1-100
- Lottery winners: Random assignment
- Charity runners: Specific ranges
- By registration date: Earlier = lower number
Hot take: Lower numbers feel cooler, even if they mean nothing! 😄
Bib Attachment Options
| Method | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| Safety pins | Secure, traditional | Holes in shirt |
| Race belt | No damage to clothing | Can shift during race |
| Magnetic holders | Easy on/off | Can fall off |
| Bib clips | Reusable | Less secure |
Post-Race Bib Uses
Many runners save bibs as mementos:
- Frame your first marathon bib
- Create a bib collection display
- Scrapbook them with photos
- Use as bookmarks (small races)
Bib Crimes 🚨
Never do these:
- Bib muling: Running with someone else's bib
- Bib selling: Transferring registration for profit
- Banditing: Running without any bib
- Photocopying: Using fake bibs
These can result in lifetime bans from race series!
Remember: Your bib is your race day passport — treat it with respect!
