Core
The muscles of the trunk (abs, back, hips) that stabilize the body during movement.
What is the Core?
It's not just a six-pack (rectus abdominis). The Core includes your deep abdominals, obliques, lower back, and hips. It connects your upper and lower body.
Role in Running
Think of your core as the chassis of a car. If the chassis is loose, the wheels (your legs) can't perform efficiently. A strong core:
- Maintains posture (prevents slouching when tired).
- Improves efficiency (transfer of power).
- Reduces injury risk (stability).
Training
Planks, dead bugs, and Russian twists are better for runners than traditional crunches.
