Blister

A fluid-filled bubble on the skin caused by friction, heat, and moisture.

What is a Blister?

A Blister is your body's defense mechanism against friction. When your shoe or sock rubs against your skin repeatedly, the outer layer of skin separates from the inner layers, and fluid fills the space to cushion the wound.

The Triangle of Blister Formation

  1. Friction: Rubbing.
  2. Heat: Swelling feet.
  3. Moisture: Sweat or rain softens the skin, making it vulnerable.

Prevention

  • Proper Fit: Shoes shouldn't be too tight or too loose.
  • Good Socks: Moisture-wicking synthetic or wool socks (no cotton!).
  • Lubricant: Apply Body Glide or Vaseline to hotspots.
  • Taping: Tape toes that are prone to blisters.

To Pop or Not to Pop?

General advice: Don't pop it unless it's too painful to walk. If you must, use a sterilized needle and keep it clean.
