Water Stop
A smaller, simplified version of an aid station, offering primarily water and sometimes sports drink, focusing on quick hydration.
What is a Water Stop?
While "Aid Station" is a catch-all term, a Water Stop specifically implies a minimal setup. You won't find medical tents, toilets, or food buffets here—just tables with cups of water and maybe an electrolyte drink.
Common in Shorter Races
- 5K/10K Races: Usually have 1 or 2 water stops.
- Purpose: To wet your mouth and prevent overheating. You rarely need caloric nutrition in a 5K, so a full aid station isn't necessary.
The Strategy
For shorter races (under 1 hour), many experienced runners skip the water stops entirely to save time, unless it is exceptionally hot. The time lost slowing down to drink often outweighs the hydration benefit for such a short duration.
A Water Stop is a pit stop, not a parking lot. Grab, sip, go.
