Dry Heave
The act of retching (gagging) without vomiting, often occurring after extreme physical exertion.
The Finish Line Salute
You crossed the line, gave it 110%, and now you are bent over, heaving but nothing is coming out. That's a Dry Heave.
Causes
- Acidosis: High levels of lactate/acid in the blood.
- Dehydration: Lack of fluid to vomit.
- Adrenaline: The body's stress response interfering with digestion.
It's unpleasant, but often a badge of honor showing you left absolutely everything on the course.
