The Wall
A state of sudden, overwhelming fatigue and muscle weakness, typically occurring after 20 miles in a marathon.
What is The Wall?
The Wall is the physical and mental point in a marathon (usually around mile 20 or 32km) where your body's glycogen stores are depleted.
What it Feels Like
- Your legs feel like they are made of lead.
- Your pace drops significantly.
- You feel a sudden sense of "I can't do this."
- You may experience "brain fog" or confusion.
How to Avoid It
The best way to avoid hitting the wall is through Carbo Loading before the race and consistent fueling with Energy Gels during the race.
