Talk Test
A simple method to gauge running intensity based on your ability to speak.
The Talk Test Rule
- Easy Run: You can speak in full paragraphs/sentences without gasping.
- Tempo Run: You can say short phrases ("I'm okay," "Pace is good").
- Intervals/Sprints: You can only say one or two words (or grunt).
Why It Works
It's a surprisingly accurate proxy for your Heart Rate Zone. If you can talk comfortably, you are aerobic (burning fat). If you can't, you are anaerobic (burning sugar).
